Many people have found that a teeth whitening treatment is a great way to give themselves brighter and better smile; one they don’t have to hide. The whitening process can be done with a halogen lamp or use of a bleaching gel. This is a common procedure that occurs in most general dentistry, but more commonly in the field of cosmetic dentistry.
There are loads of methods to whiten teeth: whitening strips, whitening pen, whitening gel, laser whitening, and natural bleaching. Traditionally, at-home whitening is made with whitening gel which is useful to the teeth via thin protector trays. At-home whitening can additionally be finished by applying little strips that envelope the front teeth. Oxidizing agents for instance hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide are used to lighten the shade of the tooth.
The teeth can also stain and darken with the use of tobacco, bacterial pigments and different foods. Many people will use a teeth whitening treatment that uses an oxidizing agent. A good example is hydrogen peroxide. It’s just like putting peroxide on the hair to bleach it, but it’s put on the teeth in order to lighten them. It should be noted though that they are not the same kind of peroxide; there is one that is made specifically for use on the teeth.
Internal staining of dentin can tarnish the teeth from inside out. Internal bleaching can resolve this. If serious staining or tetracycline damage is here on a patient’s teeth, and bleaching is ineffective, there are alternative methods of whitening teeth. Bonding, when a thin covering of combination material is applied to the front of a person’s teeth and then cured with a blue light can be performed to disguise the staining. A veneer can also mask tooth staining.
Using a teeth whitening treatment is an effective method if you would like to lighten the natural color of the teeth without removing any other surfaces of the tooth. The teeth will lighten until they can go no further. The peroxide will only go as far as the dentin layer, which is just under the enamel.
A teeth whitening treatment can last a long time, but will be shortened by excessive coffee and tea consumption and heavy cigarette smoking.
Therefore, if you want the treatment to last a long period of time and you want your teeth to look good for as long as possible you will have to give up, or at least slow down, your caffeine intake as well as your tobacco intake.
Teeth whitening treatment is a wonderful idea if you don’t feel comfortable with your smile or even if you just feel like you could do with an improvement in your appearance. This is a great way to look and feel better.
